《STATEMENT》
アフリカの人々が体にペイントを施し装飾として、戦士の装備として写る写真、または全身を覆うタトゥーの写真を見た時に、私は衝撃を受けた。
それらはもはや皮膚以上の役割を担っていると感じた。
そして、新たな役割をもった皮膚が現代のファッションとして表現されると、どのような化学反応が起こるのであろうかと興味を抱き、自分なりの表現を試みてみた。
I was shocked when I saw photographs of African people with body paint as decoration, as warrior equipment, or with full-body tattoos.
I felt that these paints were serving a role far beyond that of skin.
And I became curious about what kind of chemical reaction would occur if skin with this new role were expressed as modern fashion, so I tried to express it in my own way.
人間の皮膚は脆く、外敵や寒さから身体を守るために、衣服という第二の層を発展させてきた。
さらに、戦いのためのペイントや、アイデンティティを刻む刺青など、皮膚は常に拡張され続けて
きた。
本来、身体を外界から隔てる境界として機能してきた皮膚は、現代において衣服、装飾、そして光へとその領域を広げ、もはや身体の外部にまで浸出している。
透過する素材や反射する表面は、内と外の関係を攪乱し、皮膚を単なる「守る膜」から、環境と接続するインターフェースへと変質させる。
「Expanded Skin（拡張された皮膚）」とは、自己を閉じるための境界ではなく、外部へと開かれ
続ける存在である。
Human skin has long functioned as a boundary separating the body from the outside world.
Yet throughout history, it has also been extended―through clothing, body painting,
and tattoos―as a site of protection, identity, and transformation.
In contemporary contexts, this boundary expands further into garments, adornments, and light,
dissolving the limits of the body.
Translucent and reflective materials blur the distinction between interior and exterior, redefining skin as an interface rather than a protective surface.
“Expanded Skin” is not a boundary that contains the self, but one that continuously opens it to the world.
